Slightly Dirty Yellow Submarine

My flatmate has this über cute metal box. I thought it was too cute not to share. If it had cheeks, I would pinch them!

*Starts singing* We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine!

Cold Hands, Stiff Feet and Snow Covered Rooftops

The heating in the house is currently not working. The landlord told me that he would call a repairman tomorrow so somebody could come and have a look at it. The house is freezing! I might be going to the cinema a bit later tonight but part of my motivation is to be able to sit in a room where my hands don't feel like ice cubes.

Speaking of ice cubes: I did a very adult thing yesterday and attended my very first protest march. My footwear was ballerinas and I only had the thin layer of pantyhose to cover my feet. We did a march through town and at the end there were a few speakers. My feet got so cold that at some stage when I shuffled around and lifted my right foot, I almost fell over because my feet were so numb. I won't go into detail about what the march was for as my blog is not a political platform but I will say it was nice to take part in something.

As for the pictures: These are from December of last year. I wouldn't have been able to tell you we had snow since my memory regarding seasons and weather is not the best, but apparently we did get a little bit of snow. There has been rumours that we will also get snow this year so I am keeping my fingers crossed we do, but that it only starts snowing once I have worked the last day of the year and take the large number of unused holidays.

You Don't Know what you Have Until it's Gone

Praise the Lord, I can (kind of) use my feet again!

I have spent the past three weeks limping around in agony. It all started when I got a big blister on my foot from wearing new shoes. It was uncomfortable but manageable. About a week later I managed to get a really deep cut when shaving. The first one had refused to heal but the second one got infected. I woke up one morning to find that I had a cankle (sexy, *roawr*) and the next day it had become even more swollen and  also very painful. At work I had to ask my teamleader whether I could leave 10 minutes earlier as I wanted to catch he bus that stops pretty much outside my house as I wasn't in much of a state of walking. I left 10 minutes earlier thinking it would be plenty of time but the two minute walk did actually take me 10 minutes.

I complained on Facebook (as one does in these kinds of situations) about having the right foot the size of Hulk and my friend, bless his heart, Photoshopped this picture. That's some serious artwork right there.

I have felt slightly handicapped the last few weeks. Especially as I haven't been able to go for any runs. I've started running everywhere; to the shop, to the cinema, to the post office. Now my foot is finally starting to heal and I can't wait to hit the pavement.

I took a picture of my Hulk foot at it's worst but I didn't want to gross everybody out. If it's too gross to post on Facebook it's too gross to be featured here. I did however have these pictures of my favourite ballerinas (they're gold!!! Bling bling on my feet!) and my cute flowery socks. I usually don't like clashing patterns but somehow I thought this combination worked really well. I think I need to go and buy some socks, I basically live in pantyhose and whenever I find myself looking for socks in the morning (of course when I'm in a hurry) I can only ever find two socks that of course do not match. The socks of my past boyfriends used to be the socks of mine.

By the way, am I the only one who really loves black and white tiled floors?

Whisper a Secret in my Ear, the Cold has got a Grip on me and I need your Lips to Warm me

I don't really post mood boards because I feel a bit guilty over apparently not finding anything interesting enough to put down into a short paragraph or two.

When the pictures are this beautiful (if I may say so myself) I don't think there is a need to say much though.

Everybody Acting like Silly Kids at Work for the Day

Everybody was urged and encouraged to come dressed up in Halloween attire for work. If you didn't comply and arrived to work on Wednesday not donning an outfit you would be fined two euros which would be collected and donated to charity. My manager sent a very unmotivating yet funny motivational email because he had been told to. It basically said "This is my motivational email, I was told to send this.". It gave me a good laugh.

I brought my camera with me to work on Wednesday. I do have to admit to something very embarrassing though. I work in a fairly small office in which there are a few departments. While I know everybody in my department I do also talk to other people from the other departments, however... I don't know the name of anybody in the other departments! There are about three people I know the name of. And it's not only I that have this problem, everybody else in my department shamefully always agree when I mention how embarrassing this is. So unlike usual I can only note the names of people who work in my department.

These girls had planned their outfits together and arrived as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I find the shells absolutely fantastic work. There was a competition for best and worst costume and they won best costume for their work. I would have to agree it was a well deserved win! Juliano is standing among them in his Mortitia Adams costume. He won worst costume. Don't feel too sorry for him though, he won a bottle of Baileys.

There was also a pumpkin carving competition. Some of the pumpkins were really lovely, I particularly liked this one.

I think this is Tom on the left. I was in stitches over his badly drawn/painted on fake beard.

Somebody made a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pumpkin. Class!

We all had lots of fun and I'm not sure of the others but I didn't get much work done. I was too busy posing for pictures, taking pictures, carving a pumpkin, looking at other pumpkins, eating candy and feeling like a giddy child.

For Sander: Halloween 2011

Dear Sander,

It feels like it was only the other day when I had you bugging (this is said with love, don't worry) me about posting the Halloween pictures you were so eager to see. In reality, a whole year has passed. I always felt bad that you were asking about the pictures and that I never found the time to go through all of them. I almost had a mini heart attack when I for a little while thought the Halloween party was two years ago and I had been letting you down for such a long time. My heart settled in my chest when I realised it's only one year that I have kept these pictures from your curious eyes.

It's a pity I never got to see you before you went back to Holland. I hope you're all settled in and that you don't miss us here in Ireland too much.

P.S. I'm sorry I'm the worst person in the world to reply to Facebook messages. I dedicate this post to you. Truce?

Rinna in a vampire inspired costume, looking lovely may I add.

Mika as a pirate.

Hanna, Anna-Karin, me and Tomi.

Martin. Credit given where credit is due for spending all night in a spandex cocoon.

Mariangela in the front and Sebastien in the background.

Sander!! I totally dig his shirt.

I was dressed up as Minnie Mouse.

Solenne in the best costume of the night as she was dressed as a Christmas tree, with Mizanur.

Patrik and Anna-Karin.

My ears were very popular!

Guillermo and Gloria. A smiling Carmelo is hiding in the background.

See, I told you my ears were popular!

Bjorn and the neck of Carmelo.

I couldn't decide whether I preferred this picture of Mizanur wearing ears or the above so I posted both!

Golden Mirrors and Cat Print Cravats

I was a bit cold at work the other day (I seem to be constantly sick lately) and I wrapped my scarf around my neck. While I really like my scarf (since it has cats on it), I never figured it would keep me very warm as it's incredibly flimsy. It does actually keep me warm though. The only thing it's not very good for is shielding me from rain if I were to wrap it around my head, as it's not very wide. Looking at myself in a mirror a bit later that day - with my scarf wrapped around my neck - I instantly thought of some Victorian nobleman with his intricately gathered and folded cravat.

I thought it was fitting to take a few pictures of myself wearing said scarf in my living room as it's got a little bit of an old-fashioned feel to the decor. I love our living room but I have to confess I'm never in it.
