From 18 to 26

I was never good at sports. Well... I'm able to hit a ball (baseball), I have outrun other people - the completely hopeless -  (short sprints) and I would sometimes have a bit of a height benefit going on (basketball). I got by but wasn't really that great. I never took part in any physical activities when growing up so I never got that urge to want to sweat, move and to push myself in sports.

Last year I started dabbling in jogging. Jogging slowly as I wasn't able to go very fast and certainly not very far. As the weeks and months passed by I could see that I was able to go for longer jogs. I got all kinds of excited when I managed to jog for 18 minutes straight.

While I did enjoy going out for jogs I found it a bit hard to actually get myself motivated enough to put on the clothes, shoes and to hit the streets. I would go for small jogs about once or twice a week but eventually I stopped all together.

The other week I went for my first jog in a year. I was curious as to how I would do in terms of my old record of 18 minutes. Imagine my surprise when I was able to go for 26 minutes! I was also going faster than what I used to go. I have since been jogging an additional three or four times and think I will keep it up, at least for a while. It's fun!

The only thing holding me back at the moment is the fact that I unfortunately managed to drench my iPod in fruit juice. My headphones also stopped working as the plastic wore away and the leads tore off, despite my best efforts to tape it. I had a leaky dry shampoo bottle in my bag a few weeks ago and my iPod got drenched in the liquid. I got a fright but it dried and I was able to keep using it. I'm not sure it will survive this adventure though as I think it short circuited. *Sigh*. I'm waiting for it to dry out but this might take a few days/weeks. I'm hoping it will still turn on but I'm not sure it will.

Jogging temporarily on pause. Sure, it's fun, but not without music!

Also: Yes, I do exercise with whatever makeup I happen to be wearing.

How are Things?

You may remember that I made an announcement a few months ago that I had finally been a brave little kitten and gotten a new job. I had known for quite some time that I was not happy where I was and that it was time to move on. I was scared though.... Of the unknown, of change and of being the new person... The fumbly, awkward person who doesn't know anybody in the office and who hasn't got the faintest idea of what they're doing.

I shouldn't have been so nervous. My first day was great and I left the office later that day with a big smile on my face. It's a fairly small office but what it lacks in grandeur it makes up for in atmosphere. I love my department and everybody gets on great. We work away like monkeys, banging away on our keyboards but will stop up for chats/bantering/venting here and there. There's a few Italian people but other than that everybody is from different countries so there's not much in terms of clicks going on and it's quite refreshing to mix and not just stick to your own nationality, which tends to happen a lot in call centers.

I've been here for six months now and it's a huge improvement from my last job. I am actually happy with what I do at the moment. I don't wake up and feel depressed over having to go to work and face my crummy workload. I used to do this and it's not a pleasant experience. Now I wake up and get grumpy I have to get out of a warm bed.

I do have to admit that I'm feeling a bit stressed at the moment though. The workload has gone up a little bit and it feels as if people have been tugging at me from many directions. I decided to take off the Thursday and Friday of this week so I have been pushing through all the things I need to get done before I leave. I don't have any special plans, I just intend on making sure I relax as much as possible and float around, doing things I enjoy. Roll on Thursday! A very long weekend is just the thing I need!

Will be Missed

I think autumn has probably officially arrived to Ireland. Nippy weather and frequent showers of rain. I have also noticed the need to wear a jacket in the morning. NOOOOOO!!!! To deal with the horrible news I think it's necessary to have a pint. Is it the weekend yet?

R.I.P. Irish (actually not too shabby) Summer. We will meet again next year. Hopefully we'll both be scantily clad and we'll run towards each other in slow motion on a deserted and romantic beach.
